The Atlanta Police Department Recruits Class #277
ATLANTA – On Monday, December 19th, Sea Salt Seafood Lounge hosted the Sea Salt Cares Atlanta Police Academy Dinner where they honored and served 19 recruits in training from the APD Academy class # 277. The event was kicked-off with opening remarks from the Sea Salt Lounge co-owners, Juan Farmer and Brittney Mabry, thanking the Atlanta Police Department and the recruits for attending the event. Juan Farmer mentioned how he and Karl Smith decided to give back to the community and the reason they started the Sea Salt Cares initiative. He said, “I was sitting with Karl one day and talking about how well the restaurant was doing, even during the pandemic, and I kept thinking of other people who were less fortunate. I spoke with Karl and that's how we decided to embark on this journey.” Brittney Mabry closed by thanking the recruits and expressing her gratitude for serving them.
Mayor Andre Dickens shared a special video message thanking Sea Salt Cares for hosting the event to honor the Atlanta Police Department (watch full video here). He thanked the APD and recruits for committing to serving and protecting Atlanta and said, “Atlanta is a city on the move, and we are dedicated to keeping it safe.” Mayor Dickens also expressed, “I am honored to be Mayor for a city with a world class police department, and now, each of you will have a part to play in keeping our city safe.” An excited group of recruits got to hear from Karl Smith, retired Atlanta Police Officer, talk about his experiences as a young recruit and officer and their pivotal role in the community as they become official Atlanta police officers after graduation in 5 weeks.
Karl mentioned how he became involved with Sea Salt Cares and why serving the community is important. Karl stated, “I remember when Juan said to me, ‘Let’s do something more and give back to the community. Atlanta is a different city, they support us.’” Karl closed by encouraging the recruits to continue building with the Atlanta community even after receiving their badge. After the speeches, everyone enjoyed a delicious complimentary meal from Sea Salt Lounge including appetizers and desserts.
